Dear Jayne, I think it depends on the how far your arm is affected. From what I have read it works to an extent when combined with intense physiotherapy. But depends on the individual ofcourse. Only one side has mirror. Please look at video demonstrations and Aviva's response to my query on how to procure it. Good luck for your complete recovery.

Hi Sudha, Thank you. You don't have to make a box to hold the mirror. We started with a flat table mirror. The key thing is to hide the disabled hand behind the mirror and place the functioning hand in front of the mirror. When you look at the reflection of your good hand moving you can "trick" your brain into thinking that your hidden hand is moving. The most important thing is to hide the "bad" hand completely. The box shape has an advantage because there is less chance of looking at the disabled hand during the treatment. It is also possible to buy mirror boxes on line, I think we paid less than €20 for ours. I hope it works out well for your father. Kind regards, Aviva

Hello, This is a great website with amalgamation of very relevant information. So thank you. My father suffered from a massive brain haemorrhage around 8 months ago. His basal ganglia was severely affected and he is hemiplegic on his right side. I want to try the Mirror Box Therapy for his right hand, and possibly, eventually for his right leg as well. In making this box how do I ensure that I have the angles right? Also will the box for paralysed arm look the same as the one used for phantom arm. I guess I am a little confused about if the mirror is on both sides..how would it work. In short, any more instructions / directions on making the box would be more than helpful. Thanks! Sudha
